WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the General Manager, Security, The Security Specialist is a self-directed independent thinker with resolve, experience and knowledge gained through operating in a highly regulated and fast-paced environment. You will creatively solve a variety of security challenges. This role requires a level head, and follow through to ensure conflict resolution, stakeholder satisfaction and a positive passenger experience. Your eye for continuous improvement will serve you well in identifying gaps or opportunities and closing the loop on any outstanding enhancements to the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Administer Airport Security Program

  • Maintain and update the Airport Security Program (ASP)
  • Create corrective action plans and make recommendations for creation and implementation of safeguards in response to confirmed or perceived threats.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable acts, laws, regulations, measures, and directives relating to civil aviation security.
  • Analysis of Incident reporting systems to evaluate trends and vulnerabilities within a risk-based security environment including:
    • Access control breaches
    • Incidents of unescorted personnel
    • Passenger screening incidents
    • Suspect bags
    • RAIC violations
    • Security breaches / violations
  • Perform Threat Risk Vulnerability Assessments in collaboration with Multi Agency Law Enforcement Advisory Committee
  • Monitor and review the annual security plan for performance and conformance.
  • Administer the PSLP program including site inspections plan approvals and monitor for changes and additions to tenant list and facility modifications

Security Systems Administration

  • Work within the Access Control System to maintain consistency in the application of access control theory.
  • Manage the inclusion and modification of security design to ensure primary security line integrity during construction projects and facility changes
  • Approve, facilitate, and document video surveillance disclosure requests
  • Assess and assign permission levels for stakeholder use of video surveillance system
  • Manage asset tracking auditing for key assignment and master key inventory / coding

Project Support and Data Analysis

  • Support ongoing projects both internal to the Operations department or externally for Infrastructure, Air Service Development, Lands, Commercial & Retail Development, Tenants, Carriers, and others (daily)
  • Review drawings and provide feedback on location of equipment, demolition, installation, and commissioning criteria, as well as interim security and access compliance
  • Participate in pre and post site inspections of construction areas including appropriate safety orientations and knowledge
  • Participate in design processes, such as the design of access controls, CCTV locations and Primary Security Line identification ensuring security interests are met and adequate.
  • Participate in risk assessment and ongoing hazard mitigation through data analysis

Corporate Security

  • Complete location assessments and security plans that balance threat context, security and operational continuity during public events, protests, or disruptions.
  • Perform internal investigations of varying sensitivities and complexities
  • Continually assess aerodrome property and buildings for threat vulnerabilities and provide mitigation plan

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Strong knowledge of physical security operations and security systems including the basic elements of criminology and crime prevention
  • Must possess a post-secondary diploma or degree or an acceptable combination of education and/or applicable experience
  • Knowledge of the law enforcement function and including the roles and responsibilities of a security officer, legal parameters and legislation, public interaction, human relations, report writing, court procedures, response to emergency situations
  • Demonstrated ability dealing with difficult situations and people and the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging circumstance
  • Proven experience in interviewing structure of both victims and offenders
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including comprehensive report writing abilities
  • Strong familiarity with data analysis technique, including demonstrable experience producing and analyzing trend data
  • Technical writing experience; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint
  • The ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships
  • Meet requirements of a safety-sensitive position

WHAT ELSE

  • Accredited Airport Executive (AAE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or similar designation(s) in airport operations or Security management
  • Familiarity with the airport environment would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada Security Regulations
  • Experience and exposure to electronic access control systems, video management platforms and database management
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC.)
