WHAT YOU WILL DO

The General Manager, Airport Operations & IT Business Partner is a key role in shaping the future of technology at the Airport through collaboration with Senior Leaders across the organization. This position is responsible to work with stakeholders on strategical thinking of ideas and streamlining and outlining business initiatives, while aligning with current available applications functionality, best practices, automation, and system security.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, monitors for problem and opportunity areas and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement and meeting business objectives. You are responsible for the technical correctness and completeness of the systems design and will contribute to strategic planning and maturing IT capabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide leadership, planning, development, and support for stakeholders across Calgary International and Springbank airports.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with assigned business unit stakeholders acting as a trusted advisor and key liaison and single point of contact between IT and business stakeholders for all aspects of IT
  • Develop a deep knowledge and understanding of business strategy and objectives
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand issues and desired business outcomes
  • Collaboratively define the business capability and technology investment roadmaps needed to address issues, exploit opportunities, and deliver desired business outcomes.
  • Create, maintain and proactively reprioritize a long-term business capability and technology roadmaps to meet strategic objectives and support the business stakeholders
  • Lead a team to conduct business analysis, business process mapping and measurement to gather and understand business needs and document requirements for delivery of IT solutions.
  • Lead a team to ensure business case value is captured and documented. Partner with business stakeholders to create business cases and support business to prove post implementation measurement of business value realization
  • Manage delivery and implementation for all projects and programs with direct business outcomes. Provide status updates to IT and business stakeholders, manage issues, budget, scope and mitigate risks
  • Ensure projects, programs and enhancements are delivered to meet business objectives and ensure stakeholder satisfaction
  • Partner with IT and external vendors to ensure effective IT Service Delivery that meets customer expectations
  • Work collaboratively with IT service managers to develop clear and concise communications with respects to incidents, problems, and change management as needed
  • Educate and inform business stakeholders of IT services, service offering and important technology and cybersecurity changes
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to identify, assess and proactively recommend innovation ideas where technology could be applied to address problem areas and drive business outcomes
  • Manage IT resource requirements to ensure appropriate balance between tactical and strategic demands
  • Implement IT continuous improvement programs
  • Provide in depth technical expertise for both tactical and operational initiatives
  • Assess the relative impact of IT industry trends to current and future enterprise infrastructure needs and projects
  • Participate in IT strategic planning activities
  • Support the day-to-day IT Operations for the Authority. This includes the resolution of incidents and requests escalated to infrastructure, identification and resolution of infrastructure problems
  • Manage operating budgets, evaluate needs, conduct cost and system health analyses to maximize the value of technology investments
  • Establishing, documenting, and communicating the technical vision for solutions and products in alignment with business outcomes and Enterprise Architecture
  • Collaborating with IT Leaders, Business Leaders, vendors and third-party solution providers on IT technology standards, patterns, and approaches

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor of Computer Science (or combination of relevant experience and education), along with 10-15 years of IT technology, IT operations, leadership, and strategy experience
  • Previous experience working in an Airport, Airline or Transportation and a strong understanding of the supporting technologies would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong experience in developing long term technology plans and demonstrated ability to execute on these plans and strategies successfully
  • Strong management and people development skills
  • Experience working with and managing outsourced or managed service partners
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a proven ability to source and implement practical, scalable, and efficient technology solutions
  • Skill in conceptualizing creative solutions as well as documenting them and presenting them to senior management
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs with ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence
  • Ability to develop and deliver projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex technical concepts into plain language
  • Proven ability to engage with diverse staff and leadership to promote trust, collaboration, and partnership across the organization
  • Experience with cloud architecture considered and asset i.e. AWS certified solution architect and/or Azure certified
  • Experience in aviation related systems and technologies is considered an asset
  • Strength of character and personal ethics (this role requires access to confidential and non-public information.)
  • Ability to lead and influence teams efficiently with demonstrated experience and comfort in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • This role is eligible to participate in our hybrid schedule.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
